It's the route the first generation of gulet captains ran. Quieter than Fethiye, no party-boat reputation, and the Knidos ruins on a deserted headland are unforgettable.

How rough is the meltemi wind?

In July and August the meltemi blows hard from the north and can make the western legs lively. Sailings are still safe — Turkish gulets handle weather well — but expect some afternoon chop. June and September are calmer.

Is there mobile signal at the western anchorages?

Patchy. Mersincik and Knidos have weak signal; Datça town and Bozburun are fully covered.

Can we visit ancient Knidos?

Yes — most charters anchor at Knidos for an afternoon and let guests walk the ruins ashore (free, unfenced site). Wear closed shoes.

Is this route too remote for first-time sailors?

Not at all — distances between anchorages are short and the gulet is staffed. The "remote" feel is the appeal: no party boats, just quiet bays and good food.

Are the Datça wine villages accessible by car?

Yes — the captain or marina staff can arrange a half-day taxi or rental car from Datça town to nearby vineyards (Datça Çini, Mehmet Çelebi).
